Drogo

Unlike most of the others in the household of Empress Maud, Drogo was not born in the Holy Roman Empire. In fact, he is a Norman just like his mistress, with a family seat in Cornwall. After training for the knighthood, Drogo is selected by Maud's father, King Henry, to accompany her to Germany and serve as one of her household knights. Although Maud notes early on that he is more skilled at fighting than formal conversation, their friendship blossoms when he comforts her upon her departure from home. An unusually tall man, Drogo always stands out in a crowd, but he is especially valued by the Empress because he can speak her native language fluently. He does all he can to protect Maud and support her.
